Many of us have different reasons for wishing to purchase a drone. For some, we want to capture mesmerising footage or capture dangerous stunts, while other simply want something that they can fly around the park. There can be a lot of enjoyment to be had from a UAV, but in order to enjoy it fully, you have to ensure that you get a drone that suits your needs.
While there are some that require a premium quad, there are others who would get just as much enjoyment from a cheaper alternative, as long as they don’t mind losing some features.
Introducing the U818A Wi-Fi
While the inclusion of wi-fi is present on several modern-day drones, it’s worth nothing that that U818A is an upgrade of a previous drone. As such, it is now able to capture footage while being flown, albeit at a lower resolution. Another thing many will pick up is the delicate design of the U818A. Again, what we have here is more of an entry-level drone, depending on what kind of UAVs you have used in the past.
- As well as the drone, you will also receive a number of additional items, which are as follows:
- Charging Cable
- Remote Control
- Two Batteries
- Four Additional Rotors
- Power Bank
- Extra Cogs
- Extra Screws
- Allen Key
The addition of two batteries may seem overly generous in the first instance, but you’re very likely to use them in one sitting. Each battery lasts an average of around 10 to 15 minutes, so you need to ensure that both are fully charged before leaving the house.
Four propellers are situated next to each other, with a logo placed in the middle. As such, this means that the drone is able to take off with very little effort. However, it should be noted that the pilot can suffer from a little resistance when flown in high winds, so may find sticking to sunny days offers a more enjoyable experience. It is completely normal for drones to hit the odd obstacle, and for the most part, the U818A Wi-Fi does a good job of holding itself together. However, should the worst-case scenario occur, you will find that parts are cheap to source, and the drone itself is easy to repair.
The camera could be seen as something of a conversation starter, as it’s not the best out there, but for a budget drone, it actually does a nice job when it comes to basic footage. While you’re unlikely to be filming the inside of any canyons, the camera does do a brilliant job of capturing the best footage it can with its 2MP camera, often with surprising results the other side. Whether you’re looking for a novel day out with the children, or you’re simply looking to brush up on your drone and photography skills, the U818A Wi-Fi allows you start building on your foundations.
How Does It Control?
We’ve already touched upon the wind issue, so ensuring that you pick a calm day, you’re going to have very little problems in navigating the drone. As the drone is now enhanced with Wi-Fi, you can also view footage on your phone via an app, which also allows users to set out a predetermined path for their drone. At present, there is only an Android or iOS version of the app. Those who want a more immersive experience could purchase a compatible VR headset so it really feels like they’re in the pilot seat.
The distances you’re looking at when flying drone can vary, but average around 120 – 200 feet outwards, and 80 – 100 feet high.
Should find that the main control falters, you are able to switch over to your mobile, which will work as long as you stay in range.
To understand the true value of the U818A Wi-FI, we have to ensure that we look at it in the right context. As noted, this is hardly going to win any awards for capturing breath-taking footage, but then it was never designed to be. This is a drone that is ideal for someone that is just entering the fold, or looking for a hobby for their children to enjoy. The drone still offers plenty of appeal due to its easy-to-use remote control, impressive app and the best camera quality you’re going to find within a certain price range. As such, if you use the U818A Wi-Fi to have fun, then there is very little reason as to why you won’t.
